Sunlit and calm, Bailey enjoys her time out in the garden. All the smells, the sights, and the creatures--sign her up! Apply to adopt Bailey: dcsir.org/service/adopt/Step by step process on how to apply: www.youtube.com/watch?v=tgW-CQMpYFYHello everyone! My name is now Bailey, which was selected by fans as a St. Patrick’s Day theme because my daughter and I were rescued the day before St. Patrick’s Day. I am a 6.5-year-old red female Shiba Inu. I lived my life on a farm in an outdoor run being bred for puppies. When Shiba sales went down, the place that had me decided to release me and my daughter to Rescue. While I lived outside, I am pretty well socialized to animals and people, including kids. My foster mom drove 8 hours to pick my daughter and me up. I was a little nervous in a car but quickly settled down in my transport crate. My foster mom noticed I have a slight cross eye, but that doesn’t seem to impact my vision. When I arrived at Shiba HQ, I was brought out from the car, to explore the yard while the volunteer went to get my daughter. I was timid at first but when I saw my daughter was free too, we ran and pranced and danced all about the yard. Soon, we met the other rescues at Shiba HQ and did well with everyone. The volunteer saw that we knew how to use the stairs and dog door to the home. Another volunteer brought us a bowl of yummy boiled chicken which we gobbled up with delight. The fun was over shortly when my new foster mom took me into the bathroom for a shower. I wasn’t a fan, but I had years of dirt washed off my body. It took well over an hour of washing, but I was clean! I also had VERY long nails which I let my foster mom trim without issue. It was a warm sunny day so we got to dry off outside and we were doing zoomies everywhere!!! DC SIR needs to schedule our spays. They think I will be able to transition quickly into being a member of a family where I can be spoiled and live indoors! "What? Is there something on my face?"-TsukiWe don't have the heart to tell her... it's too cute the way it is. Apply to adopt Tsuki: dcsir.org/service/adopt/Step by step process on how to apply: www.youtube.com/watch?v=tgW-CQMpYFYHello everyone! My name is now Tsuki, and it means Moon in Japanese. I am named for the upcoming eclipse on April 8, 2024. I am an approximately 3-year-old female, Shiba Inu, who was picked up as a stray in southern VA. I waited in the shelter until DC SIR found a foster home for me. I was able to go to a temporary foster home while at the shelter, but I didn’t do well with the resident cats, so I had to go back to the shelter. While there, I stayed in a kennel with several other dogs. I am a tiny Shiba Inu at just 18lbs. I may not do well with cats, but I have done really well with other dogs. DC SIR and the shelter had a few volunteers transport me to Shiba HQ. I sat in the front seat without a collar or harness because I was much smaller than the volunteer expected, so my harness was too big. I am a perfect pawsenger. When I arrived at Shiba HQ, it was pouring rain, so I had my dog introductions inside. I did great with everyone immediately. I even ignored the resident cat, but he grew up with Shibas and didn’t act scared of me. I ate a yummy raw meal and took treats from my foster mom. When I went outside to potty in the fenced backyard, my run instincts kicked in. Usually, I would get a bath before heading to my new foster home, but the volunteer at DC SIR couldn’t catch me for an hour, so my new foster pawrents will be tasked with the bath! Obviously, I am a runner since I was found as a stray. I should have been on a long leash! When I was brought back into the house, I chose to take a nap on the couch. I was obviously an indoor Shiba at one time. I am fully vetted, spayed, and ready for adoption after my 2-week assessment. I am learning leash manners with my foster family. DC SIR thinks I will be a very popular Shiba! You can apply to adopt me soon!Location: ExtendedDogs: YesCats: NoKids: TBD (12 yr +)Age: Approx 2-3Weight: 18lbsIntake Date: 4/5/24Available Date: 4/19/24Tsuki’s rescue album: www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.990749925750705&type=3 Please welcome Tsuki to the DC SIR family.
